DIY tip

If you have less than a quart of paint left in a gallon can, don't continue to store it in the gallon can. If you do, next year for touch-ups when little Freddy puts his brother's head through the wall, you will be out of luck!

Why does paint dry in the can?
Air in the can will cause oil and latex paints to thicken or crust over. With latex p
John Hackermanaints, the can may even rust! One easy solution is to transfer the paint to a quart paint can, available at most paint stores. A quart is plenty for most touch-ups (a quart will cover up to 10' x 10'). Label it with the paint name and number, manufacturer's name, and the date.

Why not give your hallway a fresh and cosy country look?. Bench and shelves are available from The Cotswold Company, just add some tongue and groove wall panelling, wicker baskets, an old clock, some dried lavender and vintage accessories such as an old magazine rack (available from Lavender & Sage).Oh... don’t forget to leave your wellies out, for a more authentic look...

It's very important that floors etc are square, purely because just about everything we buy is square, or the method of fixing it must be square. Tiles are a good example.

Square floor
Use any system of measure, and create a triangle as shown below in the 3-4-5 example. This creates a 90 degree angle. If you need a larger square use any multiple of 3-4-5, such as a 6-8-10, or 9-12-15. Your first tile can now be placed at the 90 degree angle, and the others follow the lines.
